Plumbing Tools
Plumbing tools are unlike most of the tools you have sitting in your basement or your garage. Most plumbers will be able do the job faster and better then you because they have the right plumbing tools. Of course they also have the experience and expertise to use the plumbing tools properly.
A plumbers snake is the one plumbing tool that every homeowner should have. I do twenty to thirty plugged toilets per year at an average of $170 per toilet. A plumbers snake or toilet auger in this case costs you about $100, paying for itself after the very first use.
The next plumbing tools a homeowner should have is a seat wrench. Fixing your own faucets is very easy and more often then not something every homeowner can do. This plumbing tool will cost you under $10, and is paid for very fast. There are two types of seat wrenches. One is the stepped up type in about 4 or 5 sizes, while the other is tapered and covers those same sizes and more. I have one of each, but generally I only use the tapered seat wrench and find it is needed more often then the other one.
Another great plumbing tool to have is a basin wrench. If you ever change out your faucets in your kitchen sink or bathroom basins you will need a basin wrench. These cost about $25 and are well worth the price.
Other plumbing tools are: Sewer snake, handle puller, copper pipe cutters, steel pipe cutters, torch, sandcloth, plumbers putty, crimping tools, ppipe wrenches, adjustable wrenches, pliers, power vice, chain vice, pipe threaders, and other tools.
Plumbers putty is not really a plumbing tool, but I like to use it on faucets, sink drains, toilets, and anywhere I want to hold something in place while tightening, or if I want to stop something from leaking. Plumbers putty for setting toilets works quite nicely. Put the plumbers putty under the toilet prior to tightenly the toilet bolts. Then when you tighten the toilet bolts you will create a tighter fit. Even better then using plumbers putty for setting toilets is a new product that are rubber wedges that fit under the toilet that you can cut to size.
