Shower Plumbing

Shower plumbing is the water and drain part of working with the shower. As a plumber I consider shower plumbing to also include installing the shower base or the shower pan, as well as installing the shower surround, and some of the shower enclosure depending on what type of enclosure is being installed. The water part of the shower is the shower faucet as well as shower head, plus any waterlines that are run to the faucet. Sometimes there is a mixing valve installed therefore only one line will go to the faucet, then the temperature is set for a constant temperature from a different location. If this is in a house then the mixing valve is located in the bathroom, if in a commercial location then often the mixing valve is located in another room where only certain personnel can set the temperature.

The shower plumbing also involves hooking up the drain either to the base or an adaptor that the shower liner will eventually get hooked up to. Normally the liner is installed by whoever is doing the shower tile. If you are into diy tiles then this job will be done by you. The liner is a rubber like mat that will allow the water to flow to the shower drain if the floor tiles begin to leak. The adaptor is easy to install, and goes in prior to the concrete base of the floor. Then the concrete goes down, then the liner, then thin set, then tiles.

Other shower plumbing consists of shower repair, which can be doing any repair on any part of the shower. The plumber normally will do all the work except for the tile, and the framing of the shower unit. I have installed everything from one piece full showers, two and three piece showers, steam showers, and complete shower enclosures.
